 “Relaunch Air Power Park” Showcasing Restored Jets and Rockets from Hampton’s Contributions to Aeronautical History and Space Exploration

Hampton, VA – Celebrate the completed restoration of historic aircraft and spacecraft, renewed landscaping, new kayak launch, expanded dock, and improved resiliency of Newmarket Creek along the picturesque Water Walk Trail on Saturday, May 25, 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 11:00 am, followed by free family fun, including space-themed activities & exhibits, live music by H. M. Johnson Band, food trucks and more! Hampton History Museum staff will offer tours of the outdoor exhibits of jets and rockets.

Located at 413 W. Mercury Blvd., this free, 15-acre park features several vintage aircraft and experimental space launch vehicles from the 1950s and 1960s, including jets, missiles and rockets. Many of the displays have connections with Joint Base Langley-Eustis and NASA Langley Research Center. 

The land for the park was originally acquired in 1959 to serve as the city’s Visitor Information Center and Department of Commerce and exhibit planes and rockets outdoors. The landmark geodesic dome was added in 1968 and houses indoor displays include more than 325 models of aircraft, spacecraft and nautical vessels representing all the U.S. branches of service and some other nations.

Event Parking
Free Public Parking is available only at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 807 W. Mercury Boulevard, with Free, Continuous Shuttle 10:30am-2:30pm. Free Parking for Handicapped is in Spaces at Air Power Park. For more information call 757-727-1102.
